BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana football team opens 2013 preseason camp Friday morning. Head coach Kevin Wilson announced roster updates and released the team’s 105-player camp roster Thursday afternoon. Eighty scholarship student-athletes and 25 walk-ons reported to Bloomington over Wednesday and Thursday.
“We have a good group coming back combined with a strong recruiting class and a solid walk-on program,” Wilson said. “This is the healthiest we have been during my time in Bloomington. That is a credit to our strength and conditioning staff, headed by Mark Hill, our medical staff, led by Patrick Spieldenner, and Amy Freel, who handles our nutrition and diet. We are excited to get started and look forward to a successful 2013 season.”
Signees Maurice Swain and Taj Williams will not be a part of the 2013 football team. They have not fulfilled the academic requirements needed to attend Indiana University at this time.
Signee Daryl Chestnut is a member of the 105-player roster and is expected to join the team during camp, although he will not report for the start as he completes his academic requirements.
Wilson will welcome six new walk-ons to the program:
OL Chase Alexander – Avon, Ind./Avon H.S.
K Aaron Del Grasso – Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.
K Griffin Oakes – Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood H.S.
LS Josh Pericht – Orland Park, Ill./Providence St. Mel H.S.
DL Ben Polk – Evansville, Ind./Mater Dei H.S.
QB Bryce Smith – Greenville, Ind./Floyd Central H.S.
Cornerback Antonio Marshall has been dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules.
