Here’s where the first oversign issue will crop up. The Big Ten allows teams to oversign by one in basketball, but they must be able to honor that commitment once it’s time to put the whole class on scholarship. There’s far too much that can happen to create that space for it to be responsible to speculate on how IU might make room. Just know that Indiana is oversigned right now.

So again, right now, Indiana is oversigned. Keep in mind right now, Maurice Creek is listed with the graduating class of 2014. Though it hasn’t been officially announced, Creek is virtually guaranteed to redshirt this season, which means his departure is bumped back a year.

This is even further off in the distance, so again, there won’t be any speculating as to how this all shakes out. But right now, Indiana is oversigned ahead of this season as well.

So right now, Indiana has all of its scholarships committed through the class of 2014’s collective freshman season. Again, things can (and probably will) change on this list between now and then. I’m not stating that with any sort of behind-the-scenes knowledge, but simply because odds suggest there will be turnover, as occurs naturally all over the sport and the country.

So Indiana, right now, has three spots open in the current high school freshman class. We’ve only begun to scratch the surface of that class, with players like Matt Holba and Jalen Coleman getting early mention (and Coleman a scholarship offer). Again, there could also be more openings (you’re going to tell me none of those 2012 recruits has a chance to be NBA ready before their senior season?) and other changes, but for right now, this is what things look like four years out.
