Marcus Oliver is a Hoosier.
The hard-tackling Ohio prospect picked Indiana over Cincinnati and Miami (Ohio), among others, Thursday, confirming the news via Twitter.
Oliver impressed in the southwest Ohio region last season, tallying 135 tackles in just seven games for Hamilton High School, near Cincinnati. A sideline-to-sideline middle linebacker, he has been on Indiana’s radar for some time, though he just picked up an offer last month. Slated to take an official visit this weekend, Oliver went ahead and pulled the trigger early.
Indiana has been among Oliver’s top schools for some time now. He visited unofficially for the Hoosiers’ games against Indiana State, Ohio State and Wisconsin, and when the offer finally came down, he expressed relief and excitement at the opportunity.
“They’ve been recruiting me since last year, and it means a lot, because Indiana’s actually one of my favorite schools as far as campus and coaches,” he said in an interview last month. “I was just waiting on it forever, really.”
Cincinnati was Oliver’s other co-finalist, though he almost committed to Miami (Ohio) at one point. The Bearcats were offering him a grayshirt opportunity, while Indiana’s offer was full and immediate.
