Four-star guard Ron Patterson, committed to Indiana for nearly two years, won't be a part of the program this fall, according to a source familiar with the situation.

A couple more interesting notes:
1) Per Kyle Neddenriep at the Star, Patterson committed to Indiana two years ago today.
2) The door might be cracked open slightly for Matt Roth, if anyone else gets knocked off the roster for any reason as well.

And this is the reason Tom Crean keeps recruiting. Foreign players, academic issues, changing of minds, and the NBA....He has been catching a lot of flak for the whole over sign thing. Never stop recruiting, something we should embrace!!

Z- if he decides to try and find a 4 year school which will accept him, does IU have a veto of which school since the kid signed an LOL? Might let him to to ALA-Birmingham for example but not ILL>??

That's a good question, and one for the NCAA, whose offices are currently closed. Checking with a trusted compliance expert, I think he's free to go wherever he wants, provided he cuts it academically. But I'll double check with the NCAA tomorrow.

Obviously something needed to happen, and I am surprised this is how things shook out. I have always like pattersons style of play and he could be a great role player at IU. I thought Creek was going to take medical hardship. I wonder if Crean still recruits Patterson. Will probably depend on how the relationships with the top 2014 kids are.
Either way, best of luck to Ron, who seems like a good kid and is a talented kid who came to Indiana when nobody else wanted to.

I really liked Patterson as a defensive player. He could have helped the Hoosiers immediately on that end of the court as a true freshman. That's where he'll be missed most.
