DeNato hits Jusick with one out, but then induces a 1-6-3 double play out of Jacobson. We're through half a game, Indiana up 7-1.
Indiana goes 1-2-3 in the fifth. Jasman has found a nice rhythm, but Michigan can't do anything with DeNato yet. Still 7-1.
Michigan starts the sixth with a bunt single from Biondi, and DeNato walks Maezes, the next batter. Bullpen warming up as DeNato's put two on with no out in the sixth.
Guess is it's Effross out in the bullpen, but he's wearing a warm-up pullover, so I can't tell for sure.
DeNato induces a chopper back to the mound, and begins about as smooth of a 1-6-3 double play as you'll ever see. Biondi to third, but there are two outs.
DeNato walks Cronenworth, and then picks him off at first. He tries to distract Indiana long enough to give Biondi a chance to score. This strategy does not pay off. The old 1-3-6-3-2 put out. We're through 5 1/2 and Indiana's still up 7-1.
Justin Cureton hits his first home run of the season, a yank shot that landed in the Indiana bullpen. He's now just a triple away from hitting the cycle. 8-1 Indiana.
Scott Donley stuck one in the wind for a solo homer. 9-1 now. Michigan LF Zach Zott tumbled into the bullpen trying to catch it. He's OK.
Indiana now just trying to bury the end of Michigan.
Basil walks, but he takes off on a ball in the dirt and is thrown out. Anyway, the two solo homers put IU up 9-1 through six.
After a single and a walk, Michigan has runners at first and second with two outs in the sixth. Tracy Smith on the mound and Effross and Evan Bell in the 'pen, but he'll give DeNato a shot to end the inning.
DeNato walks Jacobson on four pitches, bases loaded. No one liked the ball four call. Not gonna lie, I'm not sure the umpire watched it all the way into the mitt.
Anyway, Biondi up now, two outs and the bases loaded, and Michigan in need of runs.
DeNato induces a chopper back to the mound. Imagine his day is done, but he's out of another jam. 9-1 Indiana going into the stretch.
Michigan sending on Alex Daar for the seventh.
DeMuth reaches on an error after bunting, gets absolutely gunned down at second by Cole Martin. Had a great jump, looked safe by a step or more, but the throw was perfect.
Then Chad Clark is hit with two outs.
Ramos strands Clark at first, Brian Wilhite out in his place at second to start the eighth. DeNato at 97 pitches, will return for the eighth.
Also Tim O'Conner moves into right field to replace Casey Smith.
After a leadoff single allowed, he'll give the ball to Evan Bell. Good night all things considered for Joey DeNato.
Very well-handled 4-6-3 DP by Indiana to end the top of the eighth. Wilhite had to spin to throw that one.
Jay Perry will pitch the bottom of the eighth for Michigan.
What the crowd like tonight? Sorry if I missed it.
mkillian247 on twitter..... I say a lot of stuff you wont care about.
Final line for DeNato: 7 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 BB, 7 K
Travis singles up the middle with two outs, moves to second on a ball in the dirt and to third on a Scott Donley infield hit, but pinch runner Will Nolden gets caught off first on a double move. Inning over, Evan Bell will pitch the ninth.
Chad Clark over to second, and John Robertson will catch. Wilhite out.
Evan Bell puts the first hitter of the ninth on first and then strikes out the next two he sees. Jusick the last hope for Michigan.
Basil squeezes a pop fly in short left, game over. Indiana wins 9-1, takes the crucial first game of a crucial series. More coming. Enjoy your Friday.
