Former Indiana men’s basketball player Devan Dumes, who played for the Hoosiers from 2008-10, was booked on Wednesday morning into the Marion County jail on preliminary charges of murder, carjacking, theft and possessing a firearm without a license. Multiple reports out of Indianapolis suggest that the murder charge is attempted murder, which is not what InsideIndiana.com was told by a jail official reached Wednesday afternoon.
The first three charges are all felonies, whether the first is attempted murder or murder, and the last is a misdemeanor.
Dumes’ bond was set at $250,000, and as of the writing of this article, he was still being processed, according to a public information officer at the jail.
InsideIndiana.com will have more on this developing story.

OK, there's an RTV6 report out of Indianapolis suggesting that the charge is attempted murder, not murder, that Dumes surrendered himself voluntarily this morning and that these charges are related to the incident Dumes was involved in last week, when he fired several shots into a house.
Just to be clear: When I talked to the official at the jail, the term that was given to me was "murder," not "attempted murder." Will try to get further clarification. Report is linked below.
OK, FOX 59 is also now reporting that the charge is "attempted murder," not "murder," as I was previously told. I've put in a call to the Indianapolis Police Department that has not yet been returned, but I'm comfortable noting the separate reports in our initial brief. It has been so edited.
Dustin Dopirak of the Herald-Times tweeted out Dumes' booking information, which says "murder." Linked below.
Dopirak has also posted that according to a probable cause affidavit, Dumes was booked with attempted murder and attempted carjacking. The jail report lists murders and attempted murder both as murder.
We'll have more as the story develops.

Crazy stuff. You hate to see someone throw away their life like that
mkillian247 on twitter..... I say a lot of stuff you wont care about.
OK, settled in at Mackey. To put this to bed:
Dumes was booked on attempted murder charges, not murder charges, as well as the other charges listed in our original report. In the booking system used by the jail, attempted murder and murder are grouped into the same booking category, so when the jail's PIO spoke to media members seeking initial information, the paper he read from — and the jail booking online that we previously linked — said "murder," though the charge he was booked on was "attempted murder," hence the need for clarification. My apologies for the confusion on that.
Dustin Dopirak of the Herald-Times, who was also told initially that the charge was murder and who obtained the probable cause affidavit in the case, wrote up a brief report for The Hoosier Scoop. It's linked below.
Obviously, this isn't the end of the story, but I wanted to clarify the details of this particular chapter, if you will.
Devan Dumes was arrested Wednesday morning on charges of attempted murder, attempted carjacking, theft and using a gun without a license. The probable cause affidavit is below.
