IU-Kentucky open thread ... time-warp style

Can IU run with them? Should have taken the over.......

I don't think IU can, at least not for two full halves. Need to slow things down as they did in the latter part of the half, and as star points out, they need the 3-pointer to open up.

  • Get back in transition and we have a chance. Simple as that.

I might be the only person on the board that says HELL YES. IU is a much better up and down team. When we are in half-court O we tend to become stagnate, IMO. IU can shoot with anybody, definitely have more shooters than UK.

  • They have to play better defense in the final half. Obviously.

  • Check out our free first half photo gallery on the front page! Some good shots from Inside Indiana photographer A.J. Mast.

  • I have a feeling it will be no holds barred in the second half: translation no whistles.

  • Low percentage shots won't get the job done. Just ask Ohio U.

    Jagstyle

  • Both teams go straight at big men first possession of the second half, and both big men just kinda ole. Can't get that early third foul.

  • Kentucky fans maybe sensing an early chance to get control of the momentum of this game, as the Wildcats open up a five-point advantage.

Make it seven after two Kidd-Gilchrist free throws. Crowd is up now.

To elaborate: Indiana NEEDS to string some stops together.

  • Hell of a game!

  • Zeller looks a little shaken right now. He's missed a shot he usually makes and then fumbled that pass. I believe he'll come around, but it needs to happen sooner rather than later for IU to win this one.

To elaborate further: The Hoosiers can't just try to play a tit-for-tat game with Kentucky. The Wildcats are way too good offensively. Indiana needs to grind out some possessions at both ends, and right now, it ain't doing that. The Hoosiers honestly aren't far off Kentucky in terms of talent and ability, but they are just far enough that if they just try to score with UK all night, then the season ends in Atlanta.

Kentucky up 66-60, 14:25 left in the game.

  • Indiana's just doing a lot of little things Kentucky isn't — committing minor mistakes, poor turnovers, etc. The 'Cats are slowly assuming control because of it.

  • Under-12 timeout comes with a brief chorus of boos from the Kentucky fans, who have wanted — but not gotten — fouls on a couple of wild takes by Davis on Zeller. Still, the Hoosiers feel off the pace of this game, if only slightly. Kentucky has committed less turnovers, pulled in more rebounds and shot more free throws, all ingredients in the recipe for IU's recent success. Hoosiers have to put something together soon.

11:58 left in the game, UK up 70-62.

The one counterargument I'd offer is that Indiana really has been a team that's refused to give up on any game this year, barring Ohio State. Hoosiers have a lot of fight in them, but is this a bridge too far?

  • Oladipo just picked up his fourth team foul. You kind of get the sense Indiana is running low on gas.

  • Indiana is playing well, but the game is slipping away from them. Just can't get stops.

  • Under-8 media timeout finds Indiana down nine to a Kentucky team that's got the Hoosiers on the edge of the sword. There's just not a ton of energy to Indiana's play in this half, and Kentucky has looked surgical on offense. Hoosiers do have the ball, and face a big possession. Still believe the only sure way back into this game is from behind the 3-point line.

79-70 UK, 7:47 left in the game. Maybe the season.

They are doing the William Tell Overture sans flags right now.

Huge possession after the timeout. IU needs a score to keep the pressure on after UK has stumbled on the last couple of possessions offensively.

  • Time to force KY into bad shots, turnovers, and REBOUND.......

    Jagstyle

  • Indiana cuts the lead to five, but Oladipo just fouled out with 4:49 left. Kentucky has made 17 straight free-throws and is about to get a 1-and-1 chance.
