IU-Ohio State open thread — FREE

  • IU's shooting 35 percent (7-for-20) from the floor while OSU is shooting 43 percent (7-for-16). IU's outrebounding OSU 12-10 and has eight points in the paint compared to four from Ohio State.

  • Pretty solid sequence from Maurice Creek after he enters the game. He hits a long three to give IU the lead, then picks Aaron Craft's pocket. He called for the ball and took another three on the next possession, though it didn't go down. He's headed to the bench now, but a pretty good couple of minutes.

  • Zeller on the bench now too. Hoosiers might have to ride out this half without its All-Americans.

  • Indiana trying to ride out the half without Zeller and Oladipo. Watford hits a big three that pushes IU's lead to four, and then a foul on OSU brings us to the last media timeout. Next 3:48 are big, Hoosiers up 25-21.

  • Ravenel and Williams with 2 also. That will help us play smaller

  • All things considered, Indiana is having a pretty rough half.

  • This is a lot like Iowa — Indiana isn't getting good shots to fall, so it's forcing bad ones. Hoosiers need Zeller and Oladipo back badly. Ohio State up 28-25 and calls timeout with 21.9 seconds left to draw something up.

  • Awful. Awful way to finish a half.

  • I'll say this without meaning it empirically — right now, Indiana is playing like a team struggling with the weight of expectation with a Big Ten title on the line.

  • Watford's shot at the end of the half, when he had more time to at least advance the ball up the floor, sums up Indiana's half. The effort is there, but the poise and execution are not. Hoosiers managed to last without Zeller and Oladipo, but they're shooting the ball really poorly and some of it is because they're taking bad shots.

In Columbus, Indiana controlled the pace of play, but they haven't been able to force Ohio State to play fast all night.

IU shot just 10-of-30 in that half, four assists to five turnovers.

    28-25 Ohio State at halftime.

  • After Zeller and Oladipo played 19 total minutes in the first half, a three-point deficit isn't terrible. Zeller still leads IU with eight points, Hulls has five. IU is still outrebounding Ohio State 20-18, though the Buckeyes outscored IU 8-0 in the final eight minutes of the half in the paint.

IU also made just one field goal in the final five minutes of the half, while Ohio State shot 3-for-8. Should be interesting to see what happens as Zeller and Oladipo come back into the game.

For now, IU is honoring past NCAA Tournament performers/champions Steve Alford, Keith Smart, Scott May, Kent Benson and Isiah Thomas.

  • Need Cody and Vic to....stay on the floor, at the very least

  • Ohio State starts with the ball. Starters back on the floor for both teams.

  • Indiana's ramping up the pace. 7-2 run out of the locker room.

  • Indiana much more crisp offensively this half. Having Zeller and Oladipo back helps, and the Hoosiers look more relaxed. Deshaun Thomas answering a lot of big buckets right now.

  • Indiana switching on Thomas a lot, esp. with Oladipo and Watford. Hoosiers might have just caught a break on either a) a shooting foul on Thomas or b) a bad loose-ball call. Either way, we enter the under-16 timeout with the Hoosiers up 37-34, 15:03 left in the half, and they have the ball.

  • IU hasn't missed from the field this half. Watford and Oladipo have both made two shots, Zeller has made another. IU begins the half outscoring OSU in the paint, 8-4. Oladipo and Zeller, both burdened with two fouls, aren't playing passively at all, going to the basket and even drawing contact.

IU leads at the first media timeout, 37-34.

Definitely looked to me like the latter was true. Not sure about a foul, but it did look out of bounds on Oladipo.

  • Indiana's offense starting to stagnate again. Hoosiers could really use some long-range makes to loosen up a tightly packed Ohio State defense. On the other end, the Buckeyes are getting to the basket way too easily, and they're getting follows when they miss.

OSU up 44-43 at the under-12 media timeout, 11:51 left in the game.

  • Ohio State is on a 6-2 run and takes the lead, 44-43, on a Ravenel layup. Points in the paint are even at 10 each this half.

I would agree with this. Bad defense leading to poor rebounding.

  • Indiana can't get any offensive rhythm tonight against Ohio State's defense.
