If you were Tom Crean would you pursue Djimde, Abell or bank it?

  • Abell is the most game-ready player. Djimde fills a position of need. Banking it leaves the door open for another 2012 commitment or at the very least gets you in line with the oversign rule for 2012's current commitments.

  • I wonder if Crean is pressuring our current "big men" to have an active, devoted summer,

  • I would bank it myself. Like you should in another post Dijmde is somewhat of a project. I really dont know much about either player.

I think Zach also said in another post that if IU signs Abell it could basically mean the end of Gary Harris recruitment?

  • I would bank it for Harris. IU doesn't need any project big men. We have seen how that works out. Why wouldn't you save it for Harris?

  • We need a ball handler heading into the 2011 season, if his handle is good enough I say sign him up now..............

He is a very very good on the ball defender too, we dont have any of those as of yet and with the exception of a HEALTHY Creek I feel our backcourt is suspect. I know we need many things, signing a big guard who plays team ball and loves the D end of the court can do nothing but help the 2011 version of the Indiana Hoosiers............

  • Good point regarding defense. Jeremiah Rivers was IU's best on-ball defender and with Jeremiah graduating, Victor Oladipo is probably the best right now. Indiana could definitely use another solid perimeter stopper.

I haven't seen Abell enough to say with any degree of certainty whether or not he can handle the ball well enough to be the Hoosiers' primary ball-handler.

My concern with signing any player at this point is that IU would then need two players from the current roster who won't be seniors next season to transfer, go pro early, graduate early, etc. before the 2012 class arrives. That number increases to three if IU were to land Gary Harris or another 2012 player.

Perhaps, announcements clearing up Indiana's scholarship logjam are forthcoming this Spring, but until then, the Hoosiers' chances with Harris would seem bleak. I just can't see Harris casting his lot with a program that doesn't have a scholarship clearly available for him.

  • I don't know why we would put ourselves in this situation. It's bad enough that 2 players that aren't graduating will have to leave the team. That being said Crean must know that we aren't getting Harris. That is my thinking on why we would add another player for the 11 class. Who are the most likely to leave? Would say Cappabianco for sure. Elston maybe???? If we have a 50/50 shot on Harris I would bank it for him next year. It's not like one of these players are going to get us to the tournament. I will be surprised if we finish .500 next year.

  • i would bank it as well. Taken at face value, IU's roster is set to burst in 2012. I realize Coach Crean won't add a player who he doesn't feel will improve the team, but I think you bank it and head into next season with the hand you've been dealt. If those players can't earn a postseason berth of some sort, which I believe they can, then you wait until the 2012-13 season.

The only modifications I'd be willing to make at this point are subtractions not additions.

That makes two of us. I would banked it for Gary Harris as well. Of course, Tom Crean has a lot better idea of what's going to happen this offseason than anyone else. So stay tuned.
