Indiana-Butler in-game live thread -- FREE

  • Yes, we are here at the Crossroads Classic. It has a longer name than that -- the Boston Scientific Close the Gap Crossroads Classic.

Anyway, here's today's news, outside of the Noel Padmore commitment: Derek Elston looks like a man who plans to play. He's dressed, fully involved in warm-ups and moving without noticeable concern. Hanner Perea and Peter Jurkin are eligible as well. Warm-ups have about 20 minutes to run. Stay tuned.

  • It's about to go down, as it were. Less than five minutes on the clock til tipoff, and we've run through the national anthem. Get esscited.

  • Butler fans out in force and louder than the massive IU contingent right now. Based on the amount of red, I wouldn't have thought it possible.

  • First TV timeout finds Indiana doing very well on defense. Hoosiers have held Butler to one field goal in first 4:01. Of course, they've only hit two, the second being an and-1 on Zeller that took us into the timeout. Yogi Ferrell continues to shoot unusually poorly from the field.

4-2 Indiana, 15:59 in the half.

So I missed a second Butler field goal somewhere. My bad y'all. It's 4-4. Ignore half of that last post.

  • Bumpy start for the Hoosiers. Turnovers and missed shots have comprised the majority of their possessions. However, this has happened before, not lets see if IU can turn on the jets like it has the rest of the season.

  • Zeller misses the free throw, then Andrew Smith hits a three. That's different.

  • Indiana getting to the rim, drawing fouls, but the shooting is ice cold right now. Hoosiers haven't often shot well in this building, at least not since I've covered them.

    Abell in for Ferrell.

  • Indiana getting some open shots, just not hitting them. Hulls the culprit a couple of times. He's usually enjoyed Conseco.

  • Big sequence for Indiana, which unleashes a 6-0 run on a Sheehey jumper, an Oladipo breakaway dunk and then an Oladipo offensive rebound, layup and foul. That takes us to the under-12 timeout, and it's vintage Indiana. Defense started it all, and behind Oladipo, the Hoosiers finally starting winning the energy battles.

IU up 15-12, 11:04 left in the half.

  • defense plus Oladipo equal IU lead.

  • Rotnei Clarke's first shot of the afternoon comes 9 1/2 minutes in, and it's blocked by Oladipo.

  • Zeller needed to finish that shot over a much shorter defender. 7-footer can't leave dunks at the rim for small guys under him like that.

  • Under-8 timeout finds Butler up 19-18. Hoosiers just look suddenly tentative on offense in particular, not finishing strong through contact, missing open shots. Hoosiers just need to get their confidence running.

    7:53 in the half.

  • Defense very solid for IU do far. Just awful on offense. Forcing shots. Cody not aggressive enough

    mmarsden

  • This is the bruising, physical test IU said it was expecting. Hoosiers have to respond better.

Would definitely agree with the Zeller point.

  • Zeller isn't holding position on boxouts at all. He's getting moved around way too easily on the block.

  • Under-4 media timeout comes at 58.3 seconds left. Hoosiers still getting outphysicaled, but starting to make enough shots and good passes to hold Butler at arm's length. Bulldogs aren't going anywhere though.

    35-30 Indiana after a Sheehey 3-pointer.

  • Abell will shoot 1-and-1 after getting fouled running after a loose ball ...

Makes both. IU lead to seven, biggest of the day for either side.

  • Fromm hits an open three to end the half, IU up 37-33. Bulldogs have 10 offensive rebounds, primary reason they're in this game. IU has left 5 of 10 possible points at the free-throw line, and Cody Zeller is playing at well below what's his best. Still, Oladipo has shut down Rotnei Clarke, who has six points on 2-of-7 shooting, and Indiana got 10 points from the junior guard as well. Indiana has to start winning some of the 50-50 challenges, or Butler is going to keep them scared for 20 more minutes. Bulldogs absolutely can win today.

  • Andrew Smith just picked up his third foul. Bulldogs already have three team fouls 2:16 into the second half.

  • Two Watford free throws and then an Oladipo steal-and-dunk pushes the lead to seven. Brad Stevens pulls out a timeout. Think he sees something worth adjusting already.
