Forgive me for not touching on this earlier. I confirmed the news while covering baseball (obviously, I wasn't the first to do so, and not claiming to be). Still working to get in touch with Marlin, although I would assume he's rather in-demand today.

my guess is he also has ann outstanding grade point average..which is a primary objective in recruiting a "walk-on" Helps the entire team average??
You know, in these cases, I'll defend walk-ons, simply because it's a walk-on's job to prepare a starter or rotation player each week. One of the problems Indiana had (although they were admittedly myriad) in Crean's first three years was the lack of good depth for preparation and practice improvement, as well as talent to bring to the fore in games. Bringing in kids who are talented as walk-ons makes the entire team better, long-term.
And Marlin is a pretty good player. If memory serves, he's a very good 3-point shooter.
